He is not the type of player to seek or attract attention on the pitch. He is simple, with no fancy elements in his game, a classic anti-star. Such players get belated acknowledgment of their importance from those outside the locker rooms. Coaches on the other hand start their plans with them.

José Ángel Crespo is undoubtedly one of Răzvan Lucescu’s mightiest weapons. In his third season at PAOK and with 90 matches under his belt, the Spaniard seems stronger than ever.

Crespo started the season with his foot on the throttle. He featured in all seven encounters of the “Double-Headed Eagle” in Greece and Europe and stood his ground against great opponents, as centre-back or left full-back, occasionally sporting the skipper’s armband as well.

Consistence, incessant running, quick thinking, swift reactions, passion and abnegation were only a few of the characteristics of his game.

His contribution was acknowledged by the toughest critics, the fans. In the poll for 11888 MVP of July/August, Crespo gathered a regal percentage of 69,65% and landed the first award of the season.

PAOK’s top scorer Aleksandar Prijović came in second, after netting five goals, while Dimitris Limnios completed the podium, thanks to his remarkable performances.
