First international calls of the season
Major leagues are already underway, but there is an international break scheduled in early September for the most important stretch of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. There are also international matches to be held in all parts of the world. Here is the list of PAOK players engaged in international duty next week.
Slovakia are impressing in Group 3 of the 2016 European qualifiers, having a perfect record of six wins in as many encounters. On 5 September they will face second-placed Spain in Oviedo and three days later they will play host to Ukraine at Žilina. Both encounters will be crucial to them sealing their automatic qualification to the finals. Róbert Mak will be there, but the novelty is that Erik Sabo has been called to the Slovakia national team for the second time in his career, one year after the first nod.
Albania national side are also eager to continue their brilliant run. They next face Denmark (on 4 September) and Portugal (three days later), on their quest for a three-pointer that will strengthen their bid for their first ever qualification to Euro finals. Ergys Kace is irreplaceable in this squad and has been called for the two afore-mentioned encounters.
Robin Olsen will join Zlatan Ibrahimović and his Sweden teammates for the challenging ties against Russia (in Moscow on 5 September) and Austria (at home in Solna, on 8 September), that will decide qualification. With a victory over the Russians, Sweden will increase their lead to seven points and book their ticket to France.
Group 8 frontrunners Croatia have included Marin Leovac in their squad as they aim to win both away encounters at Azerbaijan and Norway (on 3 and 6 September respectively). They lead the standings with Italy trailing by two and Norway by four points respectively.
Garry Rodrigues will join the Cape Verde national team for the encounter against Libya, corresponding to matchday 2 of the African Cup of Nations. As for interim coach of Greece national squad Kostas Tsanas hasn’t yet issued his list for the upcoming matches against Finland and Romania.
