Terry Antonis signed for PAOK

PAOK FC announce the signing of Terry Antonis from Sydney FC. The 21-year old midfielder penned a 3-year deal.

18.08.2015

The Australian player of Greek descent started his football career at Sydney FC, where he remained until signing for the “Double-Headed Eagle”.

He stood out early on for his outstanding technical skills. Even before becoming a professional, at the age of 14 he was approached by Everton FC who wanted them for their youth teams. However his signing didn’t go through, due to FIFA’s rule prohibiting the overseas transfers of players under the age of 18.

He remained in Australia and made his A League debut at the age of 16! On 11 September 2010 he came off the bench in Sydney FC’s encounter against Wellington FC and became the youngest professional in the history of the club.

In the following season, the young midfielder became a vital cog at Sydney FC and there was once again talk of him moving to Europe, linking him with Olympique de Marseille, FC Internazionale Milano, LOSC Lille and Everton FC.

A knee injury stopped his trajectory, but he returned to action stronger and was called to Australia’s U21 squad. He got injured again in an international encounter and missed most of the 2013-14 season along with an opportunity to sign for Parma FC.

He didn’t get disappointed but went on to produce another dynamic comeback. He was among the Australian league’s top players last season. His stats read: 84,8% complete passing (629/742 passes), with just 18,3% towards his own defence. The 21-year old player is dictating play with vertical and side passes.

The official website of the Football Federation Australia wrote the following about Terry Antonis: “His outstanding skills, creativity and perception make for a consummate midfielder and it won’t be long until he signs for a big European club”.

Antonis has 3 caps for the Socceroos, he was a member of the winning squad at the AFC Asian Cup and is expected to shine for them in the 2018 World Cup.
