Toumba gets to decide the 1992 semis

On this day, on 29 April 1992, PAOK played host to AEK at Toumba Stadium for the Greek Cup semi-final second leg and produced quite an astonishing comeback.

Dušan Bajević’s AEK prevailed 2-0 in the first leg and were the favourites to advance to the Greek Cup final. PAOK however had the last word on the pitch of Toumba, despite playing without Magdy Tolba.

Milan Đurđević netted the opener for PAOK after 17 minutes of play. Alexis Alexiou cancelled out the first leg’s scoreline in the 57th minute and the two teams headed into extra time.

AEK players looked in better physical condition, but their counterparts of PAOK looked more passionate and determined to clinch qualification. Their efforts were compensated in the 103rd minute. Giorgos Toursounidis took the corner kick and Alexiou completed his brace sealing PAOK’s passage to the final showdown.
