Read in detail what Angelos Anastasiadis told media representatives in the press conference after the loss to Atromitos at Peristeri.

His initial statements:

“This is a very heavy defeat. We were better than Atromitos in the first half and created opportunities for the opener. However, we conceded with our rival’s first shot on goal. We hit the dressrooms already reduced to ten players, but we still had the opportunity to turn the tie around. However, when one concedes in the first five minutes of the second half, their rivals have a smoother job. It was yet another bad day at the office for us. Congratulations to Atromitos. It’s a very tough day, but I will be here with the boys to fight, I cannot leave the team. It’s up to us. In such cases, only work and silence can turn the tide”.

Whether he has pinpointed the reasons for the dip in the team’s performances:

“Today I cannot say that the lads didn’t give it all. They did, as opposed to other matches. I will stick by them in order to turn the situation around”.

About Athanasiadis’ dismissal and the first caution he received from referee Aretopoulos:

“I am not here to point fingers at anybody. Such things happen in football. It was a bad call. I am the last person to accuse someone else. I only accuse myself. Don’t ask me about referees. I never passed judgment on them and I won’t do it today”.

Regarding the heavy defeats from December onwards:

“That drives me crazy. It’s not just the goals conceded, but also the manner. It’s not about open space. We have to pick up our pieces and start functioning. I will not give up on the team. I will be on the players’ side and support them”.

About Tzandaris and Katsikas:

“It’s not about administrative decisions. Katsikas decided to leave the squad. I will not have in the team a player who is not here. Tzandaris hasn’t signed anywhere. If he does the same, I will act accordingly. I will never keep a player who is not willing to stay. No matter if they are nice guys, they will not give it all. Given the situation nowadays on the team, I cannot expect anything from guys who don’t give it all. The problem is not these two. By the way, Tzandaris is injured”.

Whether the team are afraid of league heights:

“I told you that it’s not the time to discuss such things. We will only hurt the team and I am the last to do that. Since the away encounter against Olympiacos, the team has been retreating -it takes no experts to figure this out”.

Regarding his resignation:

“I should do it. This is Greece. When a team loses 3-0 or 4-0, it’s very bad. I feel awful, as does everybody who is close to the team, as do the players. I can’t say ‘I’m leaving’ for the second time, as the President told me that we will be here until the summer and then we’ll see”.
