Dimitris Salpingidis spoke on behalf of his teammates in the press conference ahead of PAOK’s encounter against ACF Fiorentina in “Artemio Franchi”. The Greek international striker spoke about the game vs “Viola”, the team’s performances so far, the fatigue and the key to a positive result on Thursday. Here is what he had to say:
About qualification:
“There are just six matches in the group stage and no room for setbacks. We were taught a valuable lesson in the Thessaloniki game by ACF Fiorentina, and it’s up to us to correct our errors and fight to get the best possible result here in Florence, either a draw or a victory”.
Για την πρόκριση:
“We will do our job, get a good result here and collect as many points as possible in the remaining two encounters. We all want to continue our European adventure, we are very motivated and we are improving our team in the process”.
About the league and European competitions:
“It’s normal to have premature conversations about the league. However we are focusing on tomorrow’s game. It would be a grave error to look so far ahead. Our coach is prepping us in the best possible way and knows how to handle league and European matches. It is very important to be doing well in the league, however we always focus on the next match”.
About fatigue:
“We are tired after a match, but we rest in order to be ready for the next one. We want to be competing twice in a week. All big European clubs face that reality and our coach knows how to handle it”.
The differences between the Toumba and the Florence match against ACF Fiorentina:
“We will change some technical aspects of our game, but that is an internal issue. We will focus on improving our performance and get a positive result. We must be wary of our errors. In the Greek league, one might commit five errors and still win, however against a rival of ACF Fiorentina’s caliber even one error can prove fatal. We will try to reduce the number of errors compared to the Toumba match”.
